This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a small, K–8, Title I, public school in the heart of Oakland, CA. We serve a diverse group of learners and families who come to us with widely-varying hopes and needs.

Our school is a place where students are learning to be dynamic individuals while supporting their community.

We are helping students discover their strengths and make goals and plans to meet those goals. Through expeditionary learning and arts education, we are supporting students in finding personalized ways to learn.

My Project

We need xylophones so that we can play music together! In year three of our performing arts program, we are still trying to purchase and build up our instrument library for ensemble work. Currently, we have two or three students sharing each instrument and pair of mallets, which makes it hard for them to have time on the instrument and learn the music we are working on. By having more instruments to choose from, students will understand how the ensemble parts work individually, but also together as a team. Also, students will have more of a chance to play the full instrument, and not just half (when they're sharing)!
