I am a third grade teacher in an urban neighborhood. Sometimes even basic school supplies are not easy to obtain. The students in my class love to learn, share, and express themselves by making their point! Let them make their point on their pencils so they can make their point in writing! My students truly enjoy writing about anything and everything. However, sometimes not having a sharpened pencil or an extra sharpened pencil can be an inconvenience to an avid writer. And waiting in those long lines in the morning and afternoon during the "pencil sharpening break" (with the old fashioned sharpener) can get annoying. I would like my students to have more than enough pencils and paper and to limit the amount of time spent on sharpening pencils that gets in the way of instructional time. I have 21 students. I am requesting 21 packs of pencils, 21 pencil pouches, 21 packs of loose-leaf paper, and a high quality electronic sharpener. A sense of ownership is important to them and I know my students will be grateful for what they receive. These items in our classroom will really help in so many ways. The convenience and, of course, the necessity of having these supplies will definitely increase progress and productivity in our class.
