My classroom is made up of 15 sweet preschoolers. They are the youngest members of the school, with a drive to learn and explore everything! The children in our school reside in the inner city, and are from many different countries and backgrounds. Most of my students come from low income families. Pre-K is usually their first school experience, and for some, the first time they will be using English on a daily basis. Preschoolers learn a lot about their world through play and exploration. It's such a rewarding feeling to witness; how they begin to build friendships, and to see their eyes light up as they learn and accomplish new tasks every day.
Everything in Pre-k is about hands on learning. Children this age are ready to try most things, and I hope to make it fun and engaging for them. The Pretend & Play Combo Kitchen will encourage to the children to work in the house area without worrying something will come apart. Currently the doors and handles in our sink, refrigerator, and stove are constantly falling off while the children are playing. This means play is constantly interrupted while the teachers work on securing furniture back together.
I aim to make my classroom a place where children can dream and act out their heart's desire safely.
The house area does not only serves as a pretend house, but a doctor's office, a vet clinic, a banquet hall, and even an ice cream parlor depending on the student. Pretend play is a way for students to try out different roles, explore the world and relationships, and collaborate with their friends as they work out the details of their play. I want my students to be able to spend more time immersed in their pretend play, and less time waiting for furniture to be repaired.
