Our school has students Pre-K to 5th grade. They come from hardworking, loving families. We have students from all socioeconomic classes and many ethnic backgrounds. I am a new Pre-Kindergarten teacher and finding that they love school. I have parents tell me their kids are unhappy when the weekend comes because they want to go to school. It warms my heart to know they enjoy coming to school that much. That is what Kindergarten should be about, learning to love school.
Our kids come to school eager to learn and know they are loved and cared for by our teachers and staff.
They are quick learners and I enjoy making lessons fun and creative for them. They work hard and play hard too! I want them to feel like they are playing and enjoying school, but know they are learning. My classroom is a place for them to get ready for kindergarten so they can still enjoy naps, dramatic play and have fun learning!
My Project
My students love to learn by playing and doing things by themselves. They are in Kindergarten so learning through play is the best way. We can use legos in endless ways. They can be used to build houses and garages but also just for fun in the students' eyes but they are learning to share and play in a group or with a partner in their teacher's eyes. As a teacher, I can use the LEGOs as counters for the students, base ten sets, addition counters and subtraction manipulatives too! The students can build more than things with the LEGOs, they can build words by attaching letters to the LEGOs and sentences if words are attached. The ideas are endless for teacher and students to use for learning. Our district allows us to have free play but does not provide what we need to do it.
