My classes are a wonderful bunch of kids. My students are ages 5-11, kindergarten-5th grade, they come from all walks of life and varying backgrounds. Some are born and raised here with all the freedoms America has to offer; some are coming to this country from a war torn land with very little freedoms to speak of.
My classes are composed of 20-30 brilliant, funny, kind students.
Everyday, students recite the Thunderbird Three: Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible. In the gym, they are uninhibited by the troubles of the world around them; they are free to be children and to learn through play! When they have their own space to grow, play and learn, they are able to live up to these traits as successful Thunderbird students!
My Project
My students have health and fitness standards that they are required to learn; just like they have math and reading standards. Currently, they are using equipment that is in need of daily repairs and duct taped together. Most schools place more emphasis on the traditional learning, like reading books, calculating math, and their students suffer because they are not being physically challenged too!
Research studies show that increased physical activity correlates to increased academic focus and a decrease in behavioral outbursts.
Students who have physical fitness daily have more focus for their coursework and less instances of behavioral issues. This equipment will benefit all my students and allow them the ability to get healthy, while helping them to get out excess energy and better assist them with focus in their classrooms.
