Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The community I serve is composed of Hispanic and Latino students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Despite their circumstances, my students are full of energy and curiosity for new things and subjects. A large majority of students at my school are being raised by their grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc., because either their parents are not around, or their parents are working multiple jobs or long hours.
Even though many of my students face hardships, they are the sweetest bunch around and are always eager to be at school and learn.
My Project
Having a timer with visual cues is a great tool to help my students learn independent time management skills. It will also help me facilitate small groups keeping my students on track while I focus on the students in front of me.
A microphone will help my soft spoken kiddos a way to let everyone hear their ideas.
Recently we published a class book and we read it to our parents. A few students were shy and they read their page but unfortunately not everyone could hear them. I do not want that to happen again. My students are learning how to speak in front of others and this is the tool that will give them the confidence to shine.
The folders are helpful to communicate with families and keep my students organized. The front pocket is where I will put my weekly newsletter. The prongs inside will hold a behavior chart and reference sheets. The pockets will be how I can send home flyers and student work to share with parents.
