My Students

I teach music at 3 schools, providing music education for over 1500 students, grades TK-6th. It is my goal this year to begin a ukulele program in my elementary schools for 5th and 6th grade that I know will be a hit. The ukulele is perfect for these grades, because as they grow musically and find their singing voices, the ukulele can provide them with a sense of security, inspire them to keep singing and another medium to learn music through.

These are children from wonderful families that deserve the very best my music program can offer them.

I want to provide my students with many opportunities to learn music in my classroom, because many of them do not have access to programs on their own.

My Project

When observing all of the ukulele programs in my district, I was amazed at how responsive and engaged students were to learning music with a ukulele in their hand! The ukulele seems to be the perfect instrument for musicians and non-musicians, and learning the ukulele can be extremely rewarding and beneficial to all ages and grade levels.

Through these instruments, I plan to teach my students about how to read, write, play, and improvise music on the ukulele.

I also hope to give my students the confidence to perform what they learn on the instruments in front of an audience. Ukulele, for me, is an instrument that spreads instant happiness and I want to be able to share that with my students.
