Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All students are special, but mine are the best of all. I'm a special education resource teacher and the students I teach have IEPs or need that extra help to reach grade level. My students are mostly English Learners and have eligibilities that range from Specific Learning Disabilities to students with autism. I also teach reading labs to help students in general education become better readers.
My students are great kids with big hearts.
They are eager to learn, but need accommodations, differentiated instruction and fun, hands-on ways to learn to read.
My Project
With the games I've selected, my students will be able to learn the fundamentals of reading, as well social skills. These hands-on games will help my students learn to follow directions, take turns, share, build language and collaborate with each other. I find that taking a break from workbooks, practice sheets, and even technology keeps students engaged, interested, and excited about learning. I've also selected kinesthetic sand to provide students with sensory input activities, and nursery rhyme songs to learn rhyming and dance to!
As well as being fun and great learning tools, games help with fine motor skills, communication skills, and can be modified to meet different abilities!
