My students come from all over the world, from different families and financial backgrounds, but they have one thing in common. They all LOVE learning! Our school is at the edge of a rural city a block from the beach, and it serves a diverse group of children from 23 different countries. Of my 17 students, 12 are English Language Learners, and more than half receive free or reduced price lunch.
My class is a vibrant group of learners who are excited by project-based learning activities, love to create, explore, and manipulate, and love to share their learning with others.
They are engineers, architects, problem-solvers, team players, makers, creators, and hands-on learners. They are energetic, silly, and extremely active children who love to get up and move. They make me excited to come to work each day!
My Project
Describing the impact of a good book is nearly impossible to put into words because books have endless possibilities. As a teacher I strive to provide my students with opportunities and resources that they may otherwise not be exposed to. The majority of my students do not have access to quality books at home, so school is the only place where they have the opportunity to dive into a good book! Good quality picture books spark so much joy in children of all ages, as well as adults.
It doesn't matter what age you are, a good picture book will draw you in and open your imagination to amazing new things!
The children's books chosen will help me open my students eyes to different social emotional issues they experience, provide them with a good laugh, help teach them traits such as empathy, kindness, and courage, and will ignite their learning and curiosity on a whole new level. The power of a beautifully illustrated children's book is endless.
