Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a variety of cultures and a variety of backgrounds. More than 70% are eligible for the free/reduced lunch program.Many of my students come from low-income families and get support in various areas to achieve their educational goals.

As sixth grade students they come with apprehension and an eagerness to learn.These students are entering sixth grade and come from numerous neighboring schools, as well as schools more than 25 miles away by bus.

Many of my students live in low-cost housing and stay after school until there is a parent to watch them.

My Project

Victor Hugo shared, "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent." I have found that students who participate in the arts, especially music, are more successful in their academics.

Rather than losing our music program, we are expanding it to enrich our students lives.

Music has been found to be relaxing, help students stay engaged in school, teach discipline and develop self-confidence. Not only will we develop a music program, but leaders for tomorrow.

Some of my students have had the opportunity in elementary school to be in a music program. Continuing their music education will help our students develop empathy towards other cultures and score higher on academic tests.
