My students are difficult to sum up. They are diverse and quirky. They come from different backgrounds and a wide range of socioeconomic circumstances. They also have a wide range of interests. Some of them are passionate about the history and others about the sciences, some about the arts, and some environmentalists.
What they all have in common is that they are intensely thoughtful, creative, critical thinkers who are incredibly hardworking, and could benefit from time in advisory to relax, bond over board games, and act like kids.
My Project
My students are incredibly focused on their academics, which is a wonderful attribute for a kid to have! That being said however, they need the space to spend some time just being "kids" and bonding over conversation and games rather than intense academic discussions. We have advisory once a week, and while we have lots of formal time for discussions and projects, we also have quite a bit of time for more informal bonding. Board games such as in our classroom will give the students something to bond over, talk about, and enjoy, helping them to de-stress, and spend sometime acting like kids.
