My students need new creative toys to encourage good conversations and sharing. My students will interact together in small groups with the horses, dinosaurs and activity rugs.
Our school serves a very diverse population of students in preschool through fifth grade. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college, and our alumni have gone on to schools such as University of Michigan, Michigan State and Eastern Michigan College.
Since our school is near a Big Ten university we get a lot of students from China, Japan, Korea and Poland.
These families live in our area for two years and then return home to their native country. For many of my kindergarteners, our school is their first taste of the United States.
My Project
I am requesting inexpensive creative play rugs and models. I want to encourage more language experience for my ELL students. Creative play is a great way for my students to become familiar with the English language.
Providing my students with play horses and dinosaurs will encourage sharing and creative conversations.
My students will experience these new toys in small groups, during center time. We can also write about our play experience in our writers notebook. We can have the horses and dinosaurs be part of a math lesson by noticing similarities and differences. When our weather gets warmer, the animals and the requested corral fencing can be part of outside play.
