Help me give my students the opportunity for some out of this world dramatic play by giving them some new dress up clothes, baby dolls, and especially a new furnished doll house and accessories to explore.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the pleasure of teaching 24 three to five year old preschool students in an integrated preschool program that includes both typically developing students and children with special needs.
The children that I teach come to school bursting with energy to interact with peers in a structured play environment that encourages imaginative play and social emotional development.
Many of my students do not have the opportunity to experience dramatic and imaginative play at home and that is what I strive to give them when they come to school.
My Project
Dramatic play is fundamental in the early childhood environment. Through play my students are able to use their imaginations and pretend they are someone else while developing age appropriate social emotional skills. Preschool age children love to express their imagination through role play and dramatic play. It is through role play and dramatic play that children can express and work through feelings, learn how to socialize and communicate, and most importantly how to problem solve and show empathy to their peers.
The doll house, baby dolls, pretend food, cash register, and role play costumes will allow my students to dive into their imaginations and interact with their peers through imaginative play while learning how to communicate wants and needs and problem solve as issues arise.
I look forward to watching my students experience the joy of dramatic play and role play with some new and fun play materials.
