This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hello! I teach first grade in Wichita, KS at a Title I school. My school serves students with English as a second language. Many families are low income with social emotional needs. I have students that have different learning styles and with many needs. Although my students have obstacles to overcome, they have a love for learning and value new experiences.
My students celebrate each others successes and encourage growth even though there are struggles personally and academically.
They are energetic, bright, creative, hands on and crafty. They enjoy when I share new learning experiences. They are very engaged when I incorporate various learning strategies, flexible seating options, and movement during learning time. Truly, they make me a better teacher and push me even when I am tired!
My Project
My first graders exhibit a love for learning and value new experiences. I enjoy the excitement my students show when I share a new game with them. I know many of my students don't have games to play especially with financial needs at home. As we get closer to Christmas, some of my students expressed that they don't believe in Santa because they don't get anything or their parents can't afford presents and games. I hope the games will encourage students to be creative, patient, fair, think strategically, show sportsmanship, and increase social skills.
My goal is to bring a sparkle of hope in my classroom by allowing everyone the experience of getting the gift of a game that belongs to them and to play with their family.
I want my students to feel excited about playing their game and the desire to try others to share with their family. I also hope this encourages more family time and positive experiences with social and emotional needs especially during the Holiday break!
