This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Science Sleuths need support! I am the librarian for a group of K-5 students in an urban school district. Our students face a lot of challenges due to high poverty rates and having a high English as a Second Language population.
As many of our students face both economic and language barriers, our students have difficulty understanding higher level science concepts. They love science topics but cannot transfer that enthusiasm over to the difficult topic of physics. Our fifth graders continually perform poorly on that portion of the state science exam.
These DVDs provide an excellent tool for demonstrating the physics concepts and vocabulary that our students need. The videos use humor and constant repetition of vocabulary along with real world application of the physics concepts our fifth graders really need: force, momentum, velocity, and acceleration.
Your support will make it possible for 120 fifth graders to really understand key physics ideas that they will need to be successful in the future.
