Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.
Chinese proverb
Our school is in an impoverished inner-city neighborhood in South Central Los Angeles, California.
The students’ lives are riddled with obstacles and challenges. Many of my students are first generation Americans whose parents speak little or no English and have little formal education. Despite their disadvantages, my 6th grade students are eager to learn and experience new things. Technology is of great importance and I would love for my students to be exposed to the Kindle Fire!
My Project
The Kindle Fire will inspire my students to learn in a different and innovative way. With Kindle Fire, students will be able to do research and enhance their science projects. Students will be able to use the Kindle Fire, to do research for their Science Fair project this year. Some of the topics include: How Fast Does an Alka-Seltzer Tablet Make Gas? / Which type of Water is the Hardest? / Is Smiling Contagious / It’s Written All over Your Face: Science of Facial Expressions, and many more. They can also practice their reading skills, listen to audio books, and challenge themselves with enrichment games. The Kindle will provide my students with resources that are hard for them to obtain: movies, magazines, books, video clips, websites, apps, and music. I am certain that my students will be very excited to be able to have the opportunity to use the Kindle Fire and will work very hard to get that opportunity. I hope to make learning more fun, easy, and engaging for my students; they deserve it.
Your donation will be extremely beneficial to my students for this year and the years to come.
Giving access to this technology will help them get one step closer to our goal of being college bound.
