This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Let me introduce you to the cowboy scholars! Daily, our scholars work hard in their classrooms to gain academic and life long skills to become positive contributors in society.

Because of their socioeconomic background, our scholars do not always get the chance to experience certain things.

Our scholars may not ever get a chance to take music lessons or have an instrument they can play on. Therefore, it is my goal as an educator to provide our scholars with as many experiences as I can, so they can be introduced to what may possibly be their future careers.

My Project

This drum set will allow my scholars to apply what they have been learning theory wise. We’ve used rhythm sticks and buckets, but now I want my scholars to experience playing a real drum set. This can only help them to become better drummers and also aid in Math because drumming is all about Math. Students with musical training communicate better with peers, are more empathetic, and get lots of practice expressing ideas without using words. Drumming also teaches you to read non-verbal cues, which can help you learn to read between the lines. Drumming also aids in thinking which our scholars need!
