Let Me See You Write, Write, Write, Write, Write!

Help me give my students the writing tools they need to not simply write correctly but strengthen their fine motor skills.

My Students

The population I serve has a high poverty rate. About 99% of my students receive free or reduced price lunch and about 95% are English Language Learners. Many of the students receive backpack weekend lunches. They sometimes receive dental and optometrist services through our school nurse and school sponsors.

Regardless of the obstacles facing my students and the labels placed on them, they are more than these challenges---much more.

They are loving, compassionate, and eager to learn. They are problem solvers, mathematicians, readers, writers, and dreamers. They are full of hope and desire to better themselves.

My students arrive with a positive attitude to an environment that does not readily support their native language but appreciates and embraces their customs and backgrounds. They are breaking through stigmas, labels, and barriers because, as a school system, we believe our students can accomplish more.

My Project

All of the materials and supplies that I request for my students are tools that will help them write and strengthen their fine motor skills.

All of the tools requested are developmentally appropriate for kindergartners.

The writing paper has the visual cues for proper letter formation; the golf pencils are the appropriate length that will allow a kindergartner's small hand to grip and use the correct hand muscles when writing. The thicker crayons and felt tip pens will help my students develop appropriate grip strength. The paint/bingo daubers will help students increase their gross motor skills. The paint brushes will help them simultaneously work on both fine motor and gross motor movements. The tools will help my student build a strong foundation in hand functions and tactile perceptions.
