My students, in this age of technology, need to see video, imagery and other graphical depictions relating to what I am teaching them. Currently, with a single PC and monitor, they are not getting the experience that the images and films are meant to convey.
My first graders are inquisitive, friendly, intelligent, and quite diverse.
I have a class of 22 students, as diverse culturally as any class I have had. These students are children of parents from Africa, the Philippines, India, Mexico, Laos, Finland, Honduras, and of course the United States. Two of my children are adopted and several are from single-parent families. Five students are English-language learners (EL students). Valley View Elementary School has an API score of over 800. I have a standing personal goal to teach all of my students to not only learn how to read, but to love reading and to possess a continual excitement with learning and exploring.
My Project
At the present time, my 22 students share a single personal computer with a small monitor, which is not effective. With an LCD projector, film, photographic and other technological aspects can be conveyed to the class together and in an almost life-like way. The students will have a more meaningful learning experience. Further, their curiosity about the technology that brings these lessons will be expanded.
To have an LCD projector in my room would make my lessons come alive.
All my students would have equal access to learning as the lesson would be projected on the whiteboard. All of my students will greatly benefit from seeing and experiencing the lesson material, but especially my EL students and visual learners. This media will allow my visual learners a greater opportunity for meaningful learning, while for my EL students "a picture is worth a thousand words."
