Help me give my students nonfiction readers for the school library that are at their independent reading level! Our early readers need access to K-2nd nonfiction books that can be checked out to read at school and at home!

My Students

Our students are avid readers, checking out books from our school library weekly. Their selections allow them to build early literacy skills, research abilities, build classroom connections and grow a love of reading from an early elementary age. Our students are responsible and respectful; they have shown a higher level of responsibility for book care and bringing books back to the library to share with the next friend. Our staff regularly uses our library for their classroom projects, seeking books that are these students' independent reading levels.

My Project

Our school library has some wonderful books, but the nonfiction resources for students K-2nd are nonexistent. Our students regularly struggle to find nonfiction books that they can read independently and teachers struggle to find resources they can use for classroom projects that are reading level appropriate. The National Geographic readers and DK readers will give our students a jump start into providing nonfiction literacy resources that can be used for enjoyment reading as well as in classroom research studies - every year our second grade does an animal study unit and struggles to find enough resources in our library to support their students' independent research. These books will be home in our school library and available to check out again and again for years to come by hundreds and hundreds of young, beginning readers to read at school and at home with their families!
