Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 3 and 4 years old preschoolers who have significant physical, visual and communication challenges.
Despite the challenges they face they are eager and happy to participate in daily activities.
My children learn through multi sensory approach; seeing, hearing, and touch.
Our school district has a very high poverty rate and has suffered budget cuts that seriously impact our ability to purchase materials.
My students need additional resources that are specific to their needs so they are able to access their environment.
My Project
Using the battery interrupters, now my students can participate in playing with the toys to the best of their ability. Switch adapted toys allow my students with physical disabilities the opportunity to play and learn as independently as possible. The toys that I currently have are borrowed and have to be returned. Switch Adapted Toys allow my student to interact and have fun. Cause and effect toys promote and develop learning through play, interactive participation, communication and motor skills.
It's very fun and rewarding to make adapted toys and to see the expression on my students faces when they can independently play with the toys.
