I'm lucky to teach in a community that values education and have a wonderful group of students. Some of my students come from homes where there are very few books but have access to a phone, tablet, TV, or computer. My parents try their best to supply their children with the best tools for reading, but some just simply do not have the money to have a big library in their house.
My first graders are hard working, respectful, and deserving students.
Our students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Our free and reduced lunch percentage has slowly increased over the years. We also have more and more English Language Learners entering through our school doors. There have been numerous studies that show the benefit of using technology in literacy instruction and prepares students for the world they live in.
My Project
Earlier this year I was able to add Kindles into my classroom and part of my instruction. The students love them and use them all the time.
However, the headphones that I currently have are not holding up to the demands of the kindles and usage.
New headphones would allow my students to work quietly at the kindles and play their educational games and programs without being distracted by the outside noise. Also without headphones, students that are not on the kindles or computers are distracted by all the noise. The headphones also have a microphone with will allow my students to be able to record their thinking and reading. These headphones would greatly improve their focus and the learning environment in the classroom.
