Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an inner city public school. Many of my students come from broken homes, live with one parent, or sometimes live with other family members besides their parents.
My students deserve the essentials to have a quality education since they often lack support and materials at home.
My students are driven to learn and always have questions to ask and wonder about the big things around them. They are the reason I get up and go to work daily!
My Project
Teaching students in an inner city brings many difficulties. Many of our students struggle with grade level work and when introduced to new concepts, they often need to not only see it being taught, but they need hands on experiences. These math tools will allow my students hands-on learning using manipulatives relevant to the day's lesson. When adding or subtracting, the place value blocks allow students to see the number in a concrete way and physically 'regrouping' allows them to make the connection on paper. Time is essential in life and mini clocks will help my students to manipulate the hands on the clock to help tell time.
