Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the best and deserve the best! This statement describes every single one of them. They come from a good community but not always from good family situations. I have students who would rather be at school then at home. Who in 5th grade, have to take control of their family and help provide for them because their parents won't. I have students who live with their grandparents, aunts and uncles, single family homes, and two parent homes.
However, no matter their situation, the color of their skin, or whatever else separates them from others, they come to my class ready to work hard and ready for the obstacles I have for them.
They do their best most of the time with a smile on their faces and that's all I can ask for. I, in return, need to be that person who inspires them to be great because I can see their potential even if they can't.
My Project
The items I am requesting will give students a better advantage when practicing skills. In order to play certain games, equipment is necessary and it is more rewarding for students to have their own piece of equipment. It is tough to share and have enough skill practice to become proficient. I can use the nets to play many different sports and games. In our community, lacrosse isn't a sport that is well known and by using this equipment I can broaden by students horizons and interests. The foam balls are great for teaching my younger students how to catch without them being afraid. No one likes to get hurt and if I can eliminate that by using soft foam balls I am ahead of the game. With this equipment i can help students not only be fit in P.E. but fit for a lifetime. With the right resources I can make a difference with my students. I want to give them a reason to exercise, one of the biggest reasons, because it is FUN!
