Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My seventh and eighth grade students come to school carrying piles of stress and the impact of tragedies on their shoulders. They face more troubles in their short lives than I would hope to face in a lifetime. Yet, despite their hardships, they continue to amaze me.

My students attend school in a building that is over 100 years old with a lack of resources, yet they harness the potential to change the world.

They just need access to resources to reach and realize their full potential. Now that is where amazing people like you come in.

My Project

Pencils teach us a valuable lesson- mistakes are okay and important!

In math, students must learn that mistakes and challenges should be taken as opportunities to grow and learn.

Pencils allow us to make a mistake, analyze it, erase it, and fix it. Math can only be learned through doing and practicing. Analyzing errors is essential to fully grasping concepts and skills. Having pencils and sharpeners readily available eases the anxiety of asking for one and allows my students to focus on their work and learning- not their need for supplies.
