Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds, with over 90% of our students receiving free lunch. Most of the families speak English as a second language. They also have a multitude of issues to deal with, but my students come in excited and ready to learn. Many of them are from broken homes, share a home, have personal tragedies, and still come to school happy and positive. They do their best to not let life issues distract them from being kids.
When my kids come to school, they feel safe and loved.
Every day begins with a high five or a handshake. They know someone cares about their well-being. Many hugs are given and received! My school is a Title I school with a very high percentage of free and reduced lunches. They don’t have the same access to technology as other students, but they deserve the same equity in skills that are necessary from today’s world. The same expectations are put upon my students as all students no matter what their background is.
My Project
My school district is one to one Chromebook. We are very lucky to have this. Unfortunately, we no longer provide headphones or mice. It is difficult for my students to bring these back and forth from home, and if they do bring them they are always breaking because wires get tangled.
These very much needed resources will help make blended learning flow more smoothly.
There will be much less clutter and no more excuses! Daily we use our Chromebooks for projects, research, programs, and communication. Students spend too much time untangling wires and rolling up wires if I am lucky. Most of the time wires are broken and the earbuds and mouses then don't work. This is disruptive and gives children excuses to not be on task.
With wireless mice and retractable headphones, the students can be better organized, have their technology tools in their pencil box readily available, and transition to different tasks more easily.
