My students come from a variety of different socioeconomic backgrounds, and many of them receive breakfast and lunch at a free/reduced price. They have many different life experiences, but regardless of their differences they all walk into the classroom everyday excited to learn. They all have different learning needs, and I want to accommodate every need to the best of my ability.
I want to provide my students with materials that they do not have at home to keep their interest in science and math going after they leave school.
My Project
I would like to introduce Legos to my class to help support math and science learning. Students will benefit from the Legos because it will add an element of fun while keeping the students engaged and motivated.
I would start by introducing the Legos in the classroom then I would like to send the Lego materials home for students to explore and create outside of school.
I want the students to continue with their hands on learning even outside of the classroom. Going home with a math Lego assignment will be so much more motivating than going home with a math worksheet. It will be "Hands-on Homework!"
The great thing about the Legos is that it can be adapted to fit the needs of any child. No specific background knowledge is needed.
Legos can provide a wide variety of educational value.
Math Examples -
Multiplication - A 4x2 brick has 8 studs on the top.
Fractions - Use different colored bricks to show a fraction.
Patterns - Use different colored bricks and shapes to represent patterns.
