My second grader are representational of the diversity of San Francisco at large.
They speak several languages including: English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Spanish, Korean and more.
Students also come from diverse family backgrounds. Some are from immigrant families while others are from working class and middle class families around the city of San Francisco. Despite their differences, one thing they all have in common is their love and appreciation for learning. This common denominator is why most families have chosen to attend our school, a school that has a proven history of academic success and rigor.
My Project
My students have not been exposed to many engineering experiences. LEGOS would give my student an opportunity to explore different building structures, problem-solving skills, and simple machines. These sets will not only be utilized within our STEM club but can be used in our regular 2nd-grade educational curriculum. We can use the blocks for our energy and resource unit and create cars and other simple machines. They can also be used for math lessons to stimulate creativity and problem-solving skills. Students are excited about getting hands-on manipulative and playing with LEGOS would make my students even more excited to learn about math and science!
