My Students

"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I spend each day in a classroom with 25 enthusiastic little learners.

They are all eager to learn new things and so excited about school. I currently have a very small number of Legos. Enough for two students to use sparingly. When I take out the Legos to help reinforce a concept with a struggling student, everyone in the class gets excited. I often use the Legos to introduce new concepts but do not have near the amount I need for all students to apply these new concepts themselves.

My Project

Students will use the Legos to help learn and reinforce many math concepts that we cover in Kindergarten. The concepts that I have used Legos as manipulates for in demonstrations are: counting stacks, less than/greater than, addition/subtraction, shapes, and patterns. The students are so excited when I am able to call up individual students to do a model the concept we are learning with Legos. A set of Legos for each table group would give enough Legos so that students to apply the concepts with their own Legos. The Legos would also be open during the students 'discovery time' in class. Discovery time takes place the last half hour of each day. Students will be free to create whatever they would like with the Legos.

The Legos would give us hands-on manipulatives to use in math students are interested in.

They would add excitement to learning new and often challenging concepts. By using them at discovery time, they will help develop fine motor skills, cooperation, and foster imaginations.
