Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in Houston, Texas and we are a Title 1 school, meaning that 95% or more receive free or reduced lunch. My gifted and talented classes come to school every day eager to learn. I serve students with diverse needs, who need to be challenged and who thrive from exposure to technology, robotics, chess, and makers space activities. Most of my students' homes were flooded from Hurricane Harvey and many lost everything. Our school also suffered some damage. We lost two weeks of school in order to make repairs but my students have persevered and continue to amaze me. And they continue to ask to be challenged.
My Project
The Wedo 2.0 Core Lego Set is the what the Robotics teams in our area use. My students currently use donated items from various schools. With the donations of this item, I can make 2 Robotics teams and give the students an opportunity to compete in area competitions.
My students will be able to explore, build, and modify their robotics projects while deeply engaging and fostering their technology, engineering, and coding abilities.
Getting this project funded will ensure that my gifted and talented students ask questions, develop their confidence, define problems, and design their own solutions while working in a team.
