Help me give my students LEGO plates and brick sets to instill creativity and promote ingenuity. With these building supplies, my students will get to design, create an explore the engineering process.
The Second graders in my room are wonderfully talented individuals who approach each day with a great enthusiasm to grow and learn. They are builders, explorers, scientists, artists, and so much more!
We live in a low socioeconomic area and many of my students have had to go without, but they always make the most of what they have!
We live in one of the poorest towns in the state of California. Over 90% of our students are eligible for free or reduced price lunches. There are very few opportunities for the youth in our small community.
I dream of a classroom where students have the most enriching resources and experiences to take their learning to the next level. My students are curious beyond belief and it is my hope that this curiosity, coupled with outside support can provide meaningful and engaging lessons and experiences to help close the achievement gap facing these little tikes.
My Project
My students are excited about building. Last year I received two boxes of LEGOs (thanks to the generosity of donors through Donor's Choose!) Now I am coming back for a second helping. We are requesting LEGO plates and brick sets to instill creativity and promote ingenuity. With these building supplies, my students will get to design, create an explore the engineering process.

I have one box set aside as an incentive to read, and one box to build structures to coincide with our units of study. I am happy to report that my students are reading machines and they are earning so many Legos, that I do not have enough to go around!
So I am coming back to DonorsChoose, to see if I can get a little more help to keep my curious students inspired to learn and read. These extra LEGOs and building plates will serve as a foundation to promote higher level learning in Second grade.
