The last time I saw my students was on March 17th. I sent them home not knowing if we were going to be in our classroom together again. My students and I meet everyday online and I write emails and handwritten letters to them. I also do individual reading sessions with them. I "see" many of them via virtual platforms, but it isn't the same. I miss our connections that we make in the class and I know they do, too.
I want my students to know how much I wish we were together, how much I miss them, and how much I care for them.
I sent my students home with activities, packets, experiments, and books. I want to follow-up and give them some more at-home learning experiences.
Due to COVID-19, my students are learning at home through online platforms. They will benefit from some hands-on, screen-free resources.
My Project
Our school district has been using an online learning platform since our school's closure due to COVID-19. While it has been useful to help keep our students learning, it's not perfect. Also, my students are not used to learning online. They don't sit in front of devices during the school day to complete their work. We are a hands-on kind of a class.
I want my students to be actively engaged in the learning process while at home.
Through our daily online sessions, I have come to learn a lot about my students, one being that they love Legos! I have seen so many creations! I love that Legos allow students to build, imagine, and create. I want to give them Lego sets to encourage all of those things. They also love reading! I also want to gift them with the What is Lego? book so they can learn the history of Legos! I want them to keep on loving learning even though we are apart.
I will use the bags to collect the Legos and book. I will then deliver them to my students' houses.
