Help me give my students opportunities to build and learn about zoo animals. Duplo Legos can be used all year long and we can specifically use the zoo animals when we talk about Sharing the Planet.
My students love coming to school! I work in a Minneapolis Public school where 85% of my students receive free and reduced price lunch/breakfast. School represents a safe and caring environment for a population of homeless and highly mobile young learners. These children look at school as a place to get food, learning opportunities, and consistent care.
In my High Five classroom, we work on social/emotional learning, language and literacy, math, creative arts, and how to be citizens in our community.
My Project
In my classroom, we talk about zoo animals within our Sharing the Planet IB curriculum. The Duplo Legos with give children hands-out play to create a zoo and explore zoo animals. As we focus on animals and ways we share and learn about our planet, I will make vocabulary cards for our English Language Learners to give them opportunities to practice new words by saying them and writing them. To protect these vocabulary cards, which I make for each unit throughout the school year, I will laminate them for future use, and children can trace the words on the cards with wipe board markers. Laminating sheets are expensive and I use them daily!
