My Students

I teach High Ability (or Gifted) students in a school on the outskirts of a smaller city in Indiana. They range in age from 5-11, and I get to teach them by grade level for one 40-minute period every day.

High Ability students often find normal classwork pretty easy and are not challenged to really think and problem solve.

That's the main goal of my class--to challenge my students to solve problems and learn to deal with challenges. In my class, we rejoice in what we learn from our struggles and grow from these experiences.

My Project

As a teacher of High Ability (sometimes called Gifted), I strive to challenge students to develop problem solving skills. Many of my students are not used to being challenged with failure. Because of this, they aren't sure how to deal with something that comes their way which they don't know how to solve.

The Lego WeDo 2.0 robot kits will help me to prepare my students for the future as well as inspire lifelong learning.

They will be given real world problems to solve by creating and coding with these robots from a very young age. According to the WeDo 2.0 website, "65% of today's students will have a job title that doesn't exist today." These challenges and problem solving skills will help our students in whatever job they end up doing later in life.
