Help me give my students these two Lego Mindstorm kits. I already have one in my classroom but that's not enough! I'm starting to build my robotics program at this school.
The kids who sign up for my class are excited about learning. They want to do the STEM projects and learn about the world around them. Most of the 7th graders will continue on to be in my 8th-grade class. Kids who aren't able to sign up for my class are welcome to join me after school for STEM Club. We have fun there too.
I have kids who are inquisitive, engaged, and willing to put in the effort to learn the material.
They love to ask questions. The kids have embraced STEM activities and thrive with the hands-on projects. I just love teaching at this school.
I teach Space Center and STEM classes. I am always trying to incorporate new technology into my classroom. I am taking my kids on a field trip next year on a STEM Discovery Tour in Boston. One of the places we will visit is Robotics First headquarters. I would love to have some of my students be aware of robotics and coding before we actually go there next Spring.
My Project
These Lego Mindstorm kits are great for teamwork, robotics, coding, and there's already a site with curriculum for the teacher!
I am already enrolled with an online website that utilizes the Lego Mindstorm kits.
I have one kit in the classroom right now but would love for my students to have a few more so that we are not waiting around for that one set. The website teaches coding but if you have the kit then you can plug it in and code the robot with the program. This will bring learning to life for the kids.
I realize that these kits are expensive but I plan on putting them to good use. I hope that once the district sees that these Legos are useful in the classroom that they will be more willing to buy me a class set. One small step towards a full-on robotics class at Christa McAuliffe.
