My Students

I teach Spanish and Social Studies at an immersion charter school in Alaska to highly innovative, bilingual, and focused students. Students in our school receive dual language instruction from kindergarten.

Our students are very dedicated to learning and prove it by their ability to speak two languages fluently.

Acquiring the language requires the students to take ownership of their learning, patience to adapt to the unfamiliar and problem solving skills.

We have 58 middle school students that come from a diversity of backgrounds. It is an environment of collaboration, tolerance, and achievement.

It is my goal to insert technology into the classroom in a variety of ways. We already learn many things with the help of a 3D printer. I have found that motivation tremendously increases when creative learning technology is inserted into the classroom. A Lego robot will mean a great deal to the students and be an instrumental piece in the development of a technologically equipped learning environment.

My Project

Inserting robotic technology in the classroom can provide high level learning experiences. For example, students draw a large map of the silk road on the floor with crate paper. Then they program robots to drive the road while solving common silk road problems associated with prices, differing languages and possible dangers!

Computer programming and kinesthetic problem solving can be used beyond the classroom to help increase students' interest in a STEM career.

It is my experience that when teachers create engaging creative content with technology, it increases achievement, motivation, and overall ability to remember learning objectives after time goes by.
