Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Who loves LEGOS? We all do! The FIRST LEGO League is a robotics program with 20,000 students from 55 countries. It involves research, robot design and programming. Math, science, & research are incorporated, along with gracious professionalism and discovery. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
My diverse students live in a large urban area and come from a low-socioeconomic background.
They are curious, constructive, imaginative, and enthusiastic about learning. They are elementary 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.
They continue to make academic gains despite their social and economic challenges. They enjoy working together, researching, and having fun. They demonstrate gracious professionalism and respect when they meet and compete against other students. They are positive and optimistic when faced with challenges.
My Project
My students just started the FIRST LEGO League robotics program. These books will help enrich the knowledge, brainstorming, and ideas of our future innovative leaders. This program is more than just playing with LEGOs, it's potentially the beginning to their future as scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.
With these legos, they will be able to perform advance programming, gather ideas and strategies, and compete against students typically older than them. These resources will also help in their self-confidence and guide them into more successful robotic designs and techniques.
We are limited in our resources for our robotics program.
Information, ideas, and strategies gathered from these books will provide the opportunity to develop higher-level critical thinking skills and learn valuable techniques. A few of the core values of FIRST LEGO League is that discovery is more important than winning, and that we learn from each other and our coaches. The broad impact of this project goes beyond Legos.
