My Students

My students span a huge cross section of ability levels. I teach STEM classes so I have students who are earning high school and college credit in Middle School to students who struggle with school and are learning skills that will help them find employment in meaningful fields once they are done with school or continue with a technical education.

Students cover a broad scope of learning from basic computers and robotics to engineering principles and 3D part design.

6th grade learns about basic computer fundamentals, how to fix and work with them, coding and basic programming related to robotics.

7th grade learns basic engineering skills and about different careers. Students learn about architecture, drafting, construction, electricity, soldering, and basic robotics control.

8th grade learns 3D design using Solidworks and get to work with 3D printing technology. Students can earn up to three college credits if they pass the industry certification for Solidworks design.

My Project

Students are using Lego Robots to learn basic programming of autonomous robots. Students learn basic coding principles in real world scenarios. Hands on designs and programming of robots prepare students for future STEM classes and creates interest in STEM careers.

My 6th grade students will use these LEGO Robots to solve real world problems using problem solving skills and design principles.

Students can program the LEGO robots with many different sensors so that it can interact and respond to objects the students need to manipulate.

Students compete annually in the FIRST FLL contest that has a variety of missions that need to be accomplished by the LEGO EV3 robot. Students are challenged to explain their design and programming choices to judges. All these help teach the students bot soft and technical skills needed in today's technology driven world.
