My students are from a Title 1 urban public school in the 29th largest district in the country. Many of my students are not native to the USA and come from countries all around the globe. They are challenged with learning new languages, navigating new customs, and participating in new experiences. As the library media specialist, I have the opportunity to work with every student in the building from K-5th grade. I make it a priority to ensure all of my students are presented with authentic experiences that make them ready for the challenges that lie ahead in an ever-changing world.
My students are super talented, wonderfully creative, and love to share their learning with others.
They are eager to make a difference in the world and strive to create products that solve real problems. They understand their role as global citizens and take it very seriously. My students are kind, respectful, and appreciative.
My Project
The LEGO WeDo 2.0 building materials will help my students by giving them the opportunity to collaborate, create, solve authentic problems, and demonstrate learning. The LEGO education resources, that support the use of LEGO WeDo 2.0, provide students with authentic, real-world problems that students are then able to collaborate, test, revise, and create realistic solutions for using the WeDo 2.0 bricks. The hands-on experiences using these building materials encourage higher level thinking and deeper learning as there are no "right" answers, only solutions students can justify through their creations. A huge advantage to using these blocks with students at my school is that they will be able to be used by all of the students in our school, from the Gifted and Talented Pool to our Special Needs students. Everyone can benefit from building with LEGO!
