I teach wonderful fifth graders who are eager to learn and grow to make a difference in the world around them. My class is diverse and is learning each day how to work together as a team. A large portion of my students are faced with obstacles on a daily basis, in and out of the classroom, and come to school to learn and become better citizens. Many students do not have a positive attitude towards school and I want to change that.
As an educator, it is my personal goal to provide the best education possible for all of my students, on an educational and personal level.
I want to prepare my students for the world around them and provide them with knowledge and experiences that would allow them to be better citizens in and out of the classroom.
Many of my students strive for attention, mostly negative attention, and I want to be able to show them that being a model citizen and a good friend can make the classroom, school, community, and the world a much better place through reading and education.
My Project
Have you ever needed to just step away from the norm and "play" with some LEGOs? Sometimes we all need to step away and take a brain break with some building blocks. Sometimes building what you know helps explain it better than words.
Using LEGOs in the classroom helps with creativity as well as helping some students express their thoughts and feelings, or even help them understand the way things work.
Not only is building with LEGOs educational and mentally helpful, but it is also thought of as a reward by some students and a behavioral incentive to help with classroom management. Some students may finish their work early but instead of sitting in boredom or disrupting others, they can be creative and put their thoughts in a 3D model.
LEGOs can also help with math fractions and understandings using different colors and sizes.
