I teach third graders in a low income area of town. Our school has a loving environment that teaches students to be leaders of themselves. We are a family that has ups and downs, but at the end of the day, we are focused on learning and becoming better than when we started.
My students are eager to learn and I am always looking for new ways to keep them interested in what we are learning.
Keeping up with today's changing youth is increasingly challenging, but these kids deserve the best. I want to give them the world.
My Project
I want my students to "LEGO" of their poor behaviors and make better choices throughout the day. I feel like a fun behavior system in my class with help them focus on choosing the right behaviors!
I plan on creating a classroom behavior chart using LEGO baseplates.
We already have a color coded system for student behavior. My students will choose a Lego minifigure to represent themselves in class and will move their minifigure up or down their behavior chart based on their actions.
I have also asked for bricks and other incentives to reward students for their good behavior. My students react well to positive reinforcement. I already have a Lego head treasure box, but I would like to fill it with some Lego themed prizes and allow my students a few minutes to build with Lego bricks if they have had good behavior throughout the week.
Having good behavior impacts student learning. It minimizes distractions and interruptions, so students are spending more of the school day engaged and learning.
