Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very curious and are full of questions. We strive every day to learn something new. We have worked with Green Our Planet and installed our first set of garden beds. We want these beds to be a learning classroom for students, whether we are inside or outside out our learning never stops.
My kindergarten students are very curious about the world around them and we want to give them those hands on chances to learn as much as possible.
My students live in sunny Las Vegas, NV. As teachers at a low income/low SES Title 1 elementary school, I try to give my students as many hands-on learning activities as possible. My students don't get the opportunity to explore much of the world around them. All of our students school-wide receive free breakfast and lunch and 30% of our students are homeless. My school's goal is to provide students with the best learning education while teaching them how to be the best person they can be. One small act at a time, we can change our world.
My Project
My students will be so excited to build sight words and word families using these LEGOs. The LEGO wall will provide students the ability to utilize their imagination and fine motor skills while practicing their reading and writing skills.
Each student will be able to communicate their learning in a visual way.
Lego promotes fine motor skills. Children practice dexterity as they connect Lego pieces of different sizes and shapes. This requires different amounts of pressure to assemble and becomes a wonderful exercise for little fingers which supports children in being able to control the pressure they apply while writing.
Lego encourages teamwork, improves creativity, develops problem-solving and mathematical thinking, improves communication skills, develops persistence, improves self-esteem and develops lateral thinking and planning skills. LEGO helps children to develop planning skills as well as lateral thinking. When faced with an assembly problem, children have to retrace their steps and analyze their work in order to find parts that need fixing.
