Help me give my students a Lego Mindstorm Ev3 Robot Kit, PS4 Remote, and a microsd card to learn robotics - computer programming in python and how to build a functional robot! Please help boost their STEM learning!
My students are fun and respectful! Just like my colleagues, the staff at our school are so grateful for everything that is happening in this place every day. Over 75% of our students have known each other for over five years because they come from the same feeder elementary school. Our students know each other really well because they grow up together and they know how to respect each other. This is rare because we are an inner-city school in the center of Boston, where the mobility rate is extremely high.
As a Title I city school, we are proud to say that our attendance is above 90% on average.
Occasionally, our 8th graders will reach 100% attendance. Academically, they are outstanding! They strive to work for good grades. In the last term, over 80% of our eighth graders were Honorable Mention or above. My students and my school are amazing! They motivate me to reach out for additional resources for them! These materials will make a difference in my students' learning as we are a Title I school and having access to learning robotics is a rare opportunity. The robot is equipped with programming functionality that can drive around using a PS4 remote using the Python Ev3 programming features. We use the SD card to load ev3dev into the robot and enable it to code in a variety of programming languages. One of the most popular programming language is called Python and students can creatively program the robot to solve a variety of obstacles using different sensors. Some of these sensors are: infrared (for measuring how distance of an object), touch sensor, color sensor, and so on. Then students will apply creative ways to code and leverage these sensors to solve obstacles such as maze, robo-sumo, mars rover, and many different challenges. They will code the remote to control the robots. Students can lift objects and place them, bump into others and so on without worrying breaking the robots as much as other platforms because I have taught using this platform for over 5 years. As such, this will truly enhance robotics for my students in the classroom. Please consider helping us out by sharing this with your network or chipping into our projects.
