The students in my class are from a variety of diverse backgrounds. They come from different cultures, lifestyles, family structures, and religions. My students have a wide range of disabilities, however majority of them are classified as having a specific learning disability. My students struggle with social and emotional interactions with others which prevent them from successful obtaining core instruction in a general education setting. They enjoy hands-on activities to help them better understand what is being taught and why. As their teacher, I try my best to make every lesson as hands-on and interactive as possible to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.
LEGO STEAM Park will allow the students capitalize on their creativity, motor, and social skills. It can also give the nonverbal students a voice to create the things in their heads and share them with a friend! LEGO kits allow students to problem solve and develop new meaning to a variety of things. This project will allow students to used LEGO bricks as a therapeutic tool for the students collaboration, communication and symbolic thinking. This project a great way to help students with special needs to build an interest they can share with their typical peers. I believe the students will grow in their communication skills because of this project.
