My students need a Lego Community Starter Set and Community Figures to spark their imagination during STEM play.

Many of my students face struggles and challenges in their daily lives, but I see their dedication, and the joy they find in learning is truly inspiring.
We work together to create a learning community where everyone is safe and feels valued.
During their time in my class, I work to show my students the rewards hard work brings, as well as to show them that our unique differences are to be celebrated and respected.
I teach in a Title 1 school with the majority of students receiving free or reduced price lunch. While our families want their children to be successful, and there is great community support for the schools, I know that many students will not come to school prepared with the necessary supplies. I do my best to ensure that all students have what they need academically, physically, and emotionally during the time they are in my care.
"Play is the highest form of research." -Albert Einstein
Play is an essential and irreplaceable learning opportunity in the early years of development.
Outside the classroom play often relies heavily on the latest video games and other gadgets. While technology skills are important in today's world, this form of play is often solo-play that allows for little or no social skill development.
By incorporating the Lego Community Starter Set into our classroom, students will have a chance to create, collaborate, and problem-solve in the real world. Allowing students to free build during choice time will encourage them to stretch their imaginations. Additionally, the Lego set can also be incorporated in literacy, math, science, and social studies curriculum. Students can design and create a Lego city, then write a story that takes place in it. Legos can be used as math manipulatives to help build number sense, addition/subtraction skills, and knowledge of fractions. As our class Lego library increases additional kits can be added to expand into coding and other skills.
By using Legos to make learning fun I hope to spark a life long love of learning in my firsties!
