My students are from Middle Georgia. It is not quite a big city and not quite a small town. Our town is growing tremendously and our school sizes are growing even more. I teach a 2nd grade interrelated class with boys and girls. Interrelated means that I have students who are in general education and some that need special education services for different areas such as reading, writing, math, and/or behavior.
My students come from all different abilities and backgrounds but one thing is universal: they love to create.
They LOVE to create, build, and explore. This year, I would love to give them more opportunities to do these things in the classroom so that they give hands-on, real-world connections to what we are learning using coding, building, and critical thinking with the Lego WeDo 2.0 sets!
My Project
My students are hoping to gain knowledge of robotics and the engineering design process through the LEGO WeDo 2.0 kits. I want to start a LEGO robotics team at my school within the classroom. I would love to bring the LEGO FIRST competition to my students so we can compete with other classrooms in the building and several other teams around the county. I have some experience with LEGO robotics because we have used them in years past.
The LEGO Wedo 2 is a great program that helps teach students important problem-solving skills and builds a curiosity and love for engineering, design, and science!
By using the WeDo in our classroom MakerSpace, the students will be able to use these developing problem-solving skills in order to make their world a better place.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) can help teach team work and other soft skills that are needed to create future world changers!
Most of my students have not been given the experiences to express themselves creatively and use the equipment in this project. This project will help build their team-work capabilities and critical thinking skills needed to be successful leaders and adults.
