Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an awesome group of energetic kids who want to learn!
My fantastic second graders are from a low-income community, where over 80% of students receive free or reduced-rate lunch.
Almost 70% of them speak a language at home that is not English. My students are engaged and want to learn about everything. We need Legos to help us learn. We love hands-on learning, and learning with Lego is fun! My students can create, imagine and learn with Lego.
My Project
My students need Lego for our newly constructed Makerspace. With the addition of Lego, my students will have a chance to create, build and imagine. Lego is such an important toy for children to use, but most of my students don't have any at home because of the cost. We have turned our old, dated computer lab into a Makerspace. We still are adding to our room and these materials would be a great addition. Students will go to the room and use Lego, as well as other materials to let their minds and hands create. Because we are a low-income school, we do not have the resources to add a lot.
