Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in 4th and 5th grade love to experiment with engineering design projects. One of their favorite materials to use when constructing solutions are LEGO bricks. LEGO bricks have provided an open-ended learning opportunity for students at our school, and have fostered a sense of creativity in the 4th graders who've used them. Our weekly "Becoming a Scientist" hour has provided 4th grade with a sense of wonder and curiosity about places they live and have brought about rich discussions on improving the places they live through engineering design projects.
My Project
These LEGO kits would provide more students with more hands-on learning experiences. We are currently limited in materials we can provide students, and these kits would allow more projects to reach more students. Currently, there are very few opportunities for students to use LEGO bricks in their classrooms to facilitate the creative design process and critical thinking tasks due to the lack of materials that are available. By having these kits on hand, and in the classroom, students would be able to use them on a more frequent basis and more individuals would be able to participate. Teachers and students alike are eager to build; help us get the materials we need to see that happen in our classrooms.
