Students at our school come from a low socio-economic area, and for many of them their first exposure to robotics, coding, and engineering will happen in our STEM lab. The lab provides an area where hands-on, project-based learning can occur while simultaneously creating an atmosphere of collaboration and team-work.
Our students are encouraged to work together in order to create new and dynamic ways to solve problems.
They practice these team-building exercises every day while using coding and engineering skills to complete a challenge.
My Project
My primary students love watching the older students use coding programs to work with robots and my intermediate students love building with the various sets of engineering toys we have in the lab. However, I don't have very many ways to teach younger students how to code or any way to demonstrate engineering concepts to older students.
With these LEGO sets, my younger students will be able to learn more about coding and engineering.
The sets were specially designed for them and include plans and activities ready for them right out of the box.
The materials I'm asking for include a train set that the kids can code. They'll be able to pause, stop, change direction, sound the horn, and more! The other set includes everything they will need to build simple and powered machines to learn about forces and motion, measuring, energy, and structures.
