At my school it is so important that students think of themselves as scientists as soon as they start kindergarten. More than half of the students that I teach come from low-income households. I want to make are all of my students have an equitable experience in the STEM lab, no matter their background.
My students come from various backgrounds and each of them have their own strengths as scientists.
They are special students because of their different backgrounds. Each student brings a unique experience to the STEM lab.
These materials will make an impact on all the students in the elementary school that I teach at. I am lucky enough to teach at a school that has just been renovated and has a beautiful STEM lab. One thing that we are missing in the lab are materials for the scientists to become engineers!
Some examples of what we build are homes from my hermit crab, models of planets, statues for a unit on shadows and so much more!We are in need of Legos and Lego building plates so that students can build and be creative engineers.
Students are so excited when they come into the STEM lab and they are very interested in making models. Sometimes we make models by drawing and other times students are asked to build.
